XConstruct - Composite profile

Composite profile

Calculation of composite profiles

Using this module, profile quantities such as, for example, moments of inertia and plastic resistance moments of composite steel and wood profiles can be calculated easily and quickly. The module has a very extensive profile library of more than 2700 standard steel profiles from which to select.
Composite cross sections can be built from an unlimited number of standard steel profiles, wood profiles and/or basic shapes. Dimensions of the profiles can be customized. A weakened cross section can also be easily calculated.
The calculated profile sizes are:

  • Surface
  • Weight
  • Net paint surface
  • Location of the center of gravity
  • Moment of inertia about the y-axis and z-axis
  • Centrifugal moment
  • Radii of inertia about the y-axis and z-axis
  • Distances to the extreme fibers.
  • Elastic moments of resistance about the y-axis and z-axis
  • Location of the half-lines parallel to the z-axis and y-axis
  • Plastic moments of resistance about the y-axis and z-axis
  • Relationship between the elastic and plastic moments of resistance about the y-axis and z-axis
  • Angle of the main axes of inertia
  • Maximum and minimum moments of inertia about the main axes of inertia
  • Maximum and minimum radii of inertia about the main axes of inertia
  • Recordable normal force
  • Elastic moment resistances about the y-axis and z-axis
  • Steel: Plastic moment resistances about the y-axis and z-axis
  • Strain stiffness
  • Bending stiffness around the y-axis and z-axis
  • Steel: Cross-sectional classification according to NEN-EN 1993-1-1 table 5.2
  • Steel: Profile factor Am/V – uncoated four-sided heated – including correction factor shadow effect, according to NEN-EN 1993-1-2

As the cross-section is assembled, all of the above profile quantities are calculated continuously and displayed on the right side of the dialog box. In this way, an effective cross-section that meets strength and stiffness can be quickly designed.
